bringing tradition and people together through every thread.
Did you know that our shepherds sing to their goats while combing and collecting the fibre? It’s a calming ritual, and a way to show their affection and gratitude to the animals.
Transforming pashmina fibre into a yarn that will be at once light and strong is a delicate and meticulous process that requires experience and expertise. This is why we entrust our textiles exclusively to women in the remote villages of Ladakh who have had the genuine knowledge and skills transmitted to them through their mothers and grandmothers for generations.
Each year, we deliver the fibres to these women ourselves. They work at their own pace through the winter months to clean and spin it to create the highest quality pashmina yarn available.
Pashmina comes in three natural shades: white, beige, and grey/brown. Some of our designs feature the unaltered beauty of these subtle natural tones, which highlights the material’s inherent quality. For other designs, we opt for colours derived from the natural pigments of local plants, such as walnut, carnation, lichen, and rhubarb. No chemical pigments are used in the creation of our signature, handmade dyes. All are organic and share their origins with the fibre itself, namely the land of Ladakh, the historical home of pashmina.
All our pieces are hand-woven on traditional looms by local woman using ancestral methods. The texture and refinement of each item rely on the dexterity and skill of each weaver. Their devotion not only to their work but also to their people, land, and traditions enhances the soul of each piece. (should we mention in-house weaving & production)?
